Start a Strength Training Habit That Sticks
It's a new year and although we don't subscribe to the new year new you pressure, we do feel it's never a bad time to start.
We have been wanting to slowly build out our services and offerings at the clinic to reflect our commitment to community. We want to create a space you can rely on to help cheer you on and provide tangible resources to take action on your health goals. So without further ado say hello to LIFT—our 6-week strength training class designed to make adding strength/resistance training (weight lifting) approachable, fun, and sustainable.
We know how intimidating starting (or restarting) strength training can feel, so we teamed up with Keely Turner, a certified trainer with over 10 years of experience, to create a workout that meets you where you are.
Why we prescribe strength/resistance/weight training to all our patients?
Strength training isn’t just about building muscle– it is about building a longer healthier life. Recent studies highlight that women who engage in strength training two to three times a week significantly reduce their risk of heart disease and increase their lifespan.
Strength training offers numerous benefits, including:
- Improved bone and joint health: Enhances bone density and joint function
- If you suffer from arthritis, knee, hip or back pain start by working with the Bodyworks team to find the right pain management and injury prevention strength training class
- GL:D - hip and knee pain
- Back Strong - back pain and injury
- Intro to strength - General Past Injury and fear around reintroducing weight lifting
- Enhanced mood: Boosts mental well-being.
- Improves Cardiovascular Health
- A recent 2024 study showed women who engaged in resistance/strength training 2-3x a week could reduce their risk of dying from a heart attack by 30%. Evidence we cannot ignore.
- Protects Cognition: Strength training has been shown to help reduce risk of cognitive impairment later in life.
- Better metabolic health: Aids in maintaining a healthy metabolism.some text
- Helps to control blood sugar, helping to reduce insulin resistance and type II diabetes risk. It is also a foundation in our treatment plans to manage these conditions.

Why LIFT?
This class isn’t about chasing perfection or exhausting yourself. It’s about:
- Showing up once a week and feeling good about it
- Learning how your body moves (and celebrating what it can do)
- Creating habits that stick
- Connecting with a community of women to have fun and prioritize health
- see notes above on why strength training is essential (in our opinion) for women
Incorporating both strength training and aerobic exercises into your routine can lead to substantial health improvements.
Even small amounts of exercise are beneficial, and women may require less exercise than men to achieve similar health benefits.
Incorporating strength training into your weekly routine can be a simple yet effective way to enhance your overall health and longevity.
We started LIFT because we found strength and resistance training seems to be the type of exercise people struggle to fit into their routine. We wanted to create a fun and accessible class that allows people to start small. 45 minutes a week for 6 weeks, and we will aim to build from there.
